Bio

Barbara Nore was born in Nebraska, the youngest of 3 children, and traveled by car from coast to coast with her military dependent Air Force family of five. After her dad served one year in Vietnam, the family chose Alaska as their next home instead of Hawaii because of their St. Bernard dog. They left Alaska for a short 9 months to live in the smallest state of Rhode Island for their dad’s military schooling and that is where Barb’s musical journey began. She studied violin and played in the school orchestra. The family returned to Alaska and eventually settled in North Pole. She graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks with a Bachelor of Music Education (K-12) degree, got married, and landed her first teaching position at Hunter Elementary School in the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District all within a span of two weeks in May of 1984! Barbara taught music in the FNSBSD for 32 years – 8 of those at Hunter and 24 years at North Pole Middle School. She taught general music, science, math, keyboarding, French, study hall, Plato math and English competency, orchestra, choir, and band. Barb received her Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Wayland Baptist University in 2015 and retired from the FNSBSD in 2016. She was the lead instructor with the Southeast Regional Resource Center (SERRC) Close Up program that educates 7-12 grade Alaska students about our state government in Juneau, Alaska every January and February. Barbara is married to Keith and they have 3 grown children: Katrina, Kari, and Kelsey. The oldest, Katrina, is ironically teaching in Barbara’s former position at North Pole Middle School. Katrina is a member of Alaska Gamma Chapter. Barb became an A∆K member in Gamma Chapter in January 1988 and was sponsored by her sister, Nancy Dreydoppel. Barb loves Alaska and one of her biggest goals was hiking the historic Chilkoot Trail in the summer of 2018.
